A 6-months-fellowship, open to international candidates in Maxillofacial, ENT and Plastic Surgery, focused on all aspects of orthognatic surgery. Every fellow will go through a similar course of acquiring planning and practical skills: a transition from 2D to 3D planning with a gradual increase in surgical exposure over the 6 months period of attendance.
The ZMACK group consists of 13 surgeons working within 6 hospitals and treating more than 800 orthognathic patients on a yearly base. All orthognathic treatments are covered, creating a unique environment for teaching, sharing knowledge and skills.

This 6 months period is divided in 3 blocks with a gradual increase in the difficulty of cases tackled and an increase in surgical exposure
Introduction to the basics of cephalometry, 2D planning and model surgery according to the ZMACK protocol. The fellow attends pre-op consultations consisting of patient anthropometric measurements and diagnostic imaging. Afterwards he/she will learn to master the 2D planning supported by our trainees. The fellow will intermittently attend orthognathic procedures as the second assistant.
Clinical research: The topic of the clinical research will be defined and explored within the first 2 months.
The fellow will learn the 3D planning software and attends the orthognathic surgeries as 2nd assistant. In this way he/she will learn the different approaches to orthognathic surgery within our team: maxilla first, mandible first, single surgeon, multiple surgeon…
Clinical research: Follow-up on the progress of the research and defining the final goals.
The fellow is given the opportunity to attend interventions as assisting surgeon. In the last month, the fellow needs to determine which technique he/she would like to focus on.
Clinical research: Evaluation of the final report or article.
